LoMo’s Block-by-Block Improvement Program is an initiative that provides financial incentive ($100-$500) for LoMo residents to work together to develop and conduct a block wide project that will address a need and/or improve the quality of life on their block. Projects will be considered in LoMo’s focus area: Broad to Eighth Streets, Snyder to Oregon Avenues. LoMo’s Board of Directors reviews all grants and will make a decision based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated need
  • Project impact
  • Feasibility of the project
  • Plan for maintenance / follow-up
  • Level of buy-in by block’s residents

We encourage creative thinking and are open to fresh ideas. Some examples of the types of projects your block might consider include:

  • Exterior lighting
  • Planters for each house
  • Other streetscape enhancements
  • Measures to improve the safety of your alleyway
  • Creative anti-litter signage
  • A block party at the end of a community service project such as street cleaning or greening (A block party will only be funded as part of a community service project)

How to get started:

LoMo recommends that one person take the lead in organizing interested neighbors for a planning meeting. At your first planning meeting, be sure to keep in mind how the results of the project will be maintained and supported in the future. Select a representative for your block’s proposal. The representative will serve as the liaison between LoMo’s executive board and the participants in the project. The representative should be able to answer specific questions regarding your project and application. Once the plan has been developed in consultation with interested neighbors, you may submit your block’s application at any time. Applications will be accepted year-round on a rolling basis.
