Your Introduction to PlanPhilly

The overall news mission of PlanPhilly is to cover the built environment in Philadelphia in a way that goes beyond preaching to the converted and instead, best demonstrates to the average citizen how decisions in the public realm impact their lives and their neighborhoods. As a result of this “ear to the ground” approach, PlanPhilly not only breaks news about the built environment it is also the go-to place for the public to learn about upcoming meetings and discussions where they can have their say. The site is organized around news, opinion, neighborhoods, events, issues and participation.

News

The main home page lets us feature news content and commentary and opinion articles from beats covering the city’s zoning reform commission, the controversial siting of casinos in the city, historic preservation, the planning commission, the green movement and transportation.

Neighborhoods

PlanPhilly has compiled information on Philadelphia’s neighborhoods, and associated it with our local news stories, video, image galleries and events to help to connect you to the latest hyper-local info near you. This section is not yet comprehensive, but we hope that it provides a useful overview.  You can help us add to this by letting us know if:

  • there’s news or a significant point of interest related to planning, design or development in any neighborhood that is missing
  • a whole neighborhood is missing, because, even in a city as old as Philadelphia, the landscape is always changing
  • you have contact information for a local civic group, friends-group, or community development corporation
  • you’d like to file a citizen journalist report from your neighborhood.

Email us at feedback@planphilly.com. with any of the above information.

Events

PlanPhilly attempts to aggregate all planning and design related event coverage in the region. If you have an event that you want posted please contact us at mgolas@design.upenn.edu

This person could be an individual, a member of a group, a leader or spokesperson of a group or an elected official or decision-maker, or a news source.
