How to Get More Bicyclists on the Road

Linda Baker, writing for Scientific American, indicates that one way to boost urban bicycling is to figure out what women want when it comes to cycling.  Baker reports that in the U.S. men’s cycling trips surpass women’s by at least 2:1. The article indicates that addressing women’s concerns about safety and utility will help increase the overall number of people bicycling in urban areas.

I want more secure racks where I can lock up my bike and go shopping knowing the bike will be there when I get back. There are many times when I want to visit a store but end up taking the car because I know there is no place to lock up my bike.

Thanks,

Margaret

I have contacted 311 on this matter of newpaper dispensers taking up parking signs poles which is against the rules,  Nothing is being done and it is 3 months,   Newspapers dispensers are not suppossed to be chained to public poles and there are a number of illegal ones on Second Street a little beyond South Street,  and one near Lombard St and nothing is being done,  Some of us are going to have to go out there and unchain them,,,because no one else is and they cannot come after us because it is illegal,   Folks are having difficulty parking between the workers parking at the bike poles and not enough for the customers,  On Weekends , you should see the difficulty people have in parking their bikes,  We have at least 3 wasted poles that are being used by Newspaper dispensers and a Big Belly trash,  What the point of having all these newspapers with ads if people cannot go because of lack of parking,  Shopping center such as Staples did not have parking for bikes for awhile and then they have them far from the storem,  The one where the Hot Bagel is has no parking for bikes,  Pep Boys is there also.  We need help here,
