First District Councilman Frank DiCicco says his bill will start conversations about reinvigorating a "dead zone". SCRUB's Mary Tracy says wrapping buildings with ads is not the answer. She is worried about citywide consequences.

Representatives from CBS Outdoor, CEMUSA, JCDecaux and Clear Channel Adshel made presentations to residents, activists and Rina Cutler, deputy mayor for transportation and utilities.

The University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon and Chatham have bought in to Allegheny County’s mass transit system so students, teachers and staff have unlimited access to all buses and light rail lines operated by the Port Authority. Penn is interested in a similar deal with SEPTA.

Technology is often at the center of innovation in planning and design.  Applications of technology can breathe new life into a public space, make a building more attractive, increase energy efficiency, and allow for a new set of users to access the city.  Everything from the handicapped access ramp to the LED screen atop the PECO building falls under the rubric.
