WHYY's PlanPhilly.com covers design, planning and development in Philadelphia. PlanPhilly engages and educates citizens of the value of a well-designed city and encourages active involvement in shaping it through news coverage and content-sharing.

PlanPhilly is currently looking to fill it's Managing Editor position. This position is responsible for managing the PlanPhilly team and site. The editor will strategize coverage and assign and edit stories from staff and freelancers. Working with the engagement editor, the positions ensures that the project's work reaches the broadest audience possible through the use of WHYY's multiple digital platforms (PlanPhilly.com, whyy.org, radio and podcasting) and through content partnerships and events. This position also works closely with the VP of News & Civic Dialogue and WHYY's revenue departments to raise financial support for the project.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism or communications, or in a field related to PlanPhilly's coverage areas (transportation, zoning, design, city planning)
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as lead editor or producer of a news initiative in a metropolitan newsroom
  • OR experience managing staff, strategy and operations
  • At least 2 years' experience in producing multimedia products for distribution on the web
  • Experience with budget management, strategic planning, and civic engagement is preferred
  • Excellent news judgement, journalistic skills and editorial judgement
  • Must work well under tight deadline pressure
