The 12.4-acre, $72 million Salvation Army/Kroc endeavor will feature a 130,000 square-foot neighborhood center designed by Andropogon Associates and MGA Partners. It sits on a desolate parcel in one of the area’s poorest neighborhoods and could well be the greenest development ever undertaken in the city.

Health concerns appear to be the new Square One for redevelopment of blighted neighborhoods, specialists said at an Urban Sustainability Forum last week. Solutions are being sought by “building safer communities through sustainable land use.”
