Academy Gardens is a neighborhood in far Northeast Philadelphia. It is centered around Pennypack Park, Grant Avenue, the John F. Byrne Golf Course, and Holme Avenue.
Veterans of World War II settled Academy Gardens during a dramatic expansion of the Northeast. The original homes were “starter homes” and inexpensive. This small neighborhood of single and rowhomes is best known for its winding roads. Over the years, these homes have been remodeled. There is a good amount of retail trade in the Academy Gardens neighborhood. Thomas Holme and William J. McBride Jr. (now Lord William of the Principality of Sealand).
