ABOUT RHAWNHURST

Rhawnhurst
Rhawnhurst is a residential neighborhood in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. Roughly bordered by Cottman Avenue to the south, Penway Street to the west, the Pennypack Creek to the north, and Roosevelt Boulevard to the east, Rhawnhurst encompasses zip codes 19152 and part of zip code 19111. The geographic center of Rhawnhurst is at the intersection of Castor Avenue and Rhawn Street. Rhawnhurst was originally a vast section of farmland but by 1940, the baby boom after World War II caused an increase in housing development throughout the community. The open areas proved useful for construction and most homes and development continued until 1960. Today, most homes in Rhawnhurst are twins, as well as ranchers and duplexes. There is also a large Jewish community present and various faith based places to worship.
