Mayor’s Institute for City Design
Mayor Michael A. Nutter is hosting the Mayor’s Institute for City Design (www.micd.org) from Feb. 12 -14, where mayors from across the country gather to work with leading design professionals to study their cities’ most pressing planning issues. To give the public an opportunity to hear from some of the talent coming from across the country, the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, PennPraxis, the Academy of Natural Sciences and other partners will host the following two events:

How can the federal government support cities?
The Mayor’s Institute for City Design (www.micd.org) is coming to Philadelphia for a planning session this week, and the City of Philadelphia will present a public lecture by Institute participants to discuss ways that the federal government can support cities. Presented in collaboration with PennDesign, PennPraxis and the Academy of Natural Sciences.
Panelists:
- Larry Scarpa, architect and principal of Pugh/Scarpa of Los Angeles
- Dan Pitera, urban designer and director of the Detroit Collaborative Design Center
- Maurice Cox, former mayor of Charlottesville, VA and Director of Design at the National Endowment of the Arts (invited)
- Alan Greenberger, Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission
- Susan Wachter, Professor of Real Estate, Wharton School
